The Trumpet Winsock also supports packet drivers, so it works very well
over SLIP packet drivers such as SLIPPER or CSLIPPER (which have also been
written by Peter Tattam).

Thanks for the reply, but I believe you misread. Of course if he wanted to use
WINSOCK applications without *loading* PC-NFS, he could use the trumpet
winsock as I am doing. But he wants to run them without *losing* PC-NFS.
He said that after loading PC-NFS from the distribution diskettes that he
couldn't find WINSOCK.DLL. Where should it have been? Was there ever a PC-NFS
5.0 distributed without it? If so, where can the update be ftp'ed from?
Thanks,
Laine Stump

PC-NFS 5.0 has always included a WINSOCK.DLL. However you shouldn't
expect to find it by browsing the installation diskettes, because we ship
our stuff in ZOO archives.
The WINSOCK.DLL is part of the Windows support which you install using
the WINSTALL command (on diskette #3, I think). An updated version
of WSHELPER.EXE, the WINSOCK.DLL support program, is FTPable from
bcm.tmc.edu and other sites.

It is a cookie server-ie gives you your fortune when you telnet into it using
port 17(I think). Don't forget to open the accompanying fortune file when
the app is launched. One complaint, it puts LFs between each line and my
telnet program doesn't let me convert the characters so I get funny
looking lines and have to turn on wrap-around to see it all.

Subject: Gopher Book won't load gif's properly
I've been experimenting with Gopher book and seem to have run into some
problems. Basic text information and accessing is usually fine, sometimes
I do get an error when I click into the next item. The real problem is
when I try to load a gif to view. It loads 9105 bytes(consistant/diff
gifs) and then loads the view which complains about improper EOF. If the
picture is smaller than 9K, 95% of picture looks ok with bottom missing
and complaints of corruption.
Anybody else seen this or have suggestions to try.
Running on Lantastic for TCP/IP(based on Wollongong's product)
No other TCP/IP related problems.
tried cleaning up the system and altering various network and TCP/IP
parameters, but none seem to have any affect.
